HE Mackay region offers a range of community groups and organisations that support our local men in building friendships, offering support, community catch-ups and

helping each other.
The Mackay region offers a range of community groups and organisations that support our local men in building friendships, offering support, community catch-ups and helping each other.

In the 2016 Census, there was approximately 43,394 people in Mackay or State Electoral Division.

Of this, we see men, women and support services that are supported and offered by the Mackay Church of Christ.

The Mackay Men’s Shed is an organisation in many different areas and promotes social inclusion which helps mental health and well-being for men alongside the community.

The members of the club are involved in a variety of projects and activities and social activities such as woodwork, welding, and restoration, gardening, fishing, music mornings, cooking, barbecues and much more.

Regardless of what stage in life their members are at, all are encouraged and feel included during the week.

The aim of this club also includes the support of assisting men with a range of needs, such as:

Financial difficulties and loneliness.

The grief of death and loss.

The process of building self-esteem.

The frame to experience trauma from those who are using tools for the first time in shared areas.

A group of like-minded individuals who expand on their sense of self-worth while receiving inclusion.

All of the men are welcomed into the club for a purpose of what they feel comfortable with including being supported emotionally while providing life values, community connection and empowerment which is part of the group.

Another men’s group which has regular meets is SHED happens Mackay.

A free-of-charge men’s group, non-judgemental place for those who want to listen to other men’s stories.

The SHED happens events are casual BBQ events and encourages open stories from all walks of life.

This group provides opportunity to improve men’s communication through conversation and through shared life experiences.

They had over 2021 has new and exciting partnerships within the region for hosting men’s BBQ get-togethers with special guest men who share their stories with the community.

The Mackay district works fresh group and runs a Facebook group where all of the men are able to feel supported with their challenges of navigating life. The men also use the group as a way to meet and socialise with others.

It’s a way for men who are fathers and their children to build strong group connections with their families.

This group is especially for single fathers and new dads who are doing it tough. This is a community safe space that offers both father’s emotional and physical help while also building friendships with each other.

Other groups such as bloke groups for managers and CEOs are coordinated by the Mackay Advisor that runs the Mackay Advisor Blokes Dads (MAD) Facebook.

The group-based activities help men in such a diverse place with plenty of community-based opportunities just waiting to welcome those into their arms.
