MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS READATHON 2021
E
The readathon encourages all people regardless of age to
participate in a literacy-based fundraiser with the focus being to improve literacy in general and grow community awareness in the region.
The MS Readathon offers many resources for those that have been diagnosed with MS or families requiring tools and content to direct their lived experience.
The idea is support and see it as a community can learn about MS, offer support, and take part in the MS Readathon.
For over 40 years the MS Readathon has been an event that has helped to support an incredible cause. Many schools in the community have been involved in the MS Readathon which inspires children with their literacy by reading as many books as they can throughout the month of August.
The registration process is simple: children can register their school, teachers can register their classrooms or alternatively, you can register individually.
The MS Readathon has developed a brand-new interactive website with a more modern approach for those children participating by tracking book reviews and raising funds.
The funds that are raised from the MS Readathon assists with services such as the MS Family Camps and Family Fun Days.
These are services for children who have a parent with MS an opportunity to spend time with their family as well as other families allowing
both to bond and share each other’s journeys.
Multiple Sclerosis is a disease that affects the central nervous system there are over 25,000 people in Australia that are currently living with MS.
Multiple Sclerosis is an autoimmune disease and is one of the most common diseases that affects the central nervous system.
The word “sclerosis” is derived from the Greek word meaning “scar,” and these scars appear within the central nervous system.
The Multiple Sclerosis Australia entity has over 60 years’ experience in how to live well with progressive neurological conditions.
Living with MS is a journey that comes with lived experiences in how best to manage it, however important environmental factors are considerations.
Living with MS can be severely diagnosed with MS-related symptoms which in itself brings physical symptoms such as fatigue and visual disturbances. There are multiple people living with the disease who receive treatment which assists in altering the disease from the number of relapses while on immunotherapy and recovery outcomes.
Such as immunotherapy can limit inflammation and act as a protector of central nervous system function.
If you have a lived experience, you are fundraising or are in the lives of the person living with the disease, their families, and carers.
There are many resources within the region that can connect those looking for lived experience, forming a writing group, or organising an event, donating to MSA, fundraising, or becoming an MS Ambassador.
Every effort contributes to the success of the research and moving further impact in continuing the valuable research forward.
