Day for Daniel:

A National Call to Protect Our Children

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

KELLY LEE

The largest child safety education and awareness day is “Day for Daniel”. This event is held annually on the last Friday of October.

On the 29th of October the memory of Daniel Morcombe is honoured by wearing red on that day. “Day for Daniel” is an important day for all the community to reflect on the tragic death of Daniel Morcombe and realise how imperative it is for all in our community to be aware of our children’s safety.

The Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s vision is building a future where children are free from harm and abuse. The foundation provides child safety education to both children and young people.

With the assistance of resources, education and direct support to victims affected by crime the foundation’s focus is promoting the lifelong health and wellbeing to all children and young people.

Daniel’s story began on Sunday 7th of December 2003 when he went missing from a bus stop while waiting for a bus to take him to purchase Christmas gifts for his family.

Daniel was last seen wearing a red t-shirt which has become a symbol for the foundation.

As a young 13-year-old boy, Daniel Morcombe lived with his parents and 2 brothers in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. Daniel was abducted and murdered and after years of police investigation Daniel’s body was found in 2011.

Daniel’s parents, Bruce and Denise Morcombe started the Daniel Morcombe Foundation to give back to create communities that support children. Each year together we stand for the National Day of Action for Child Safety.

The Daniel Morcombe Foundation has become one of the most well known not for profit organisations in Australia. The story of a 13-year-old boy, Daniel’s story has changed child safety through shared dedication of his parents.

Daniel Morcombe was murdered by twice convicted paedophile Brett Cowan and since 2004 the Morcombe family have advocated for the development of a public sex offender register referred to as Daniel’s Law in Queensland.

Daniel’s Law would ensure that paedophiles would use discretion to the safety of all children.

The paedophile Brett Cowan who was responsible for the murder of Daniel Morcombe was a high-risk offender who had a list of past convictions when he was sentenced to jail for violent crimes against children.

The Daniel Morcombe Foundation continues to advocate for this register as it would protect and more importantly deter those who have committed and been convicted of sexual crimes against innocent children.

The public register would enable people in the community to have the source of information which in turn would protect the innocence of our children against convicted sex offenders.

The 29th of October is a day where we as a community are given the opportunity to promote awareness and educate the public to minimise sexual crimes to children.

To register your school, early learning centre, workplace, or community group to consume together as a proud community with the aim of raising awareness and protecting our children.

The funds raised will assist the Daniel Morcombe Foundation being able to continue to support and advocate the safety of both children and young people.

Day for Daniel: A National Call to Protect Our Children

The largest child safety education and awareness day in Australia is Day for Daniel.
This event is held annually in October, when the memory of Daniel Morcombe is honoured by wearing the colour red.

Day for Daniel is an important occasion for the entire community to reflect on the tragic death of Daniel Morcombe and to recognise how vital it is for everyone to be aware of children’s safety.

The Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s vision is to build a future where children are free from harm and abuse. The foundation provides child safety education to children and young people, supported by resources, education, and direct assistance for victims affected by crime. Its focus is on promoting the lifelong health and well-being of all children and young people.

Daniel’s story began on Sunday, 7 December 2003, when he went missing while waiting for a bus. Daniel was last seen wearing a red T-shirt, which has since become a symbol of the foundation.

Thirteen-year-old Daniel Morcombe lived with his parents and brother on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. He was abducted and murdered, and his remains were finally located in 2011.

Daniel’s parents, Bruce and Denise Morcombe, established the Daniel Morcombe Foundation to give back to the communities that supported them.

Each year, people across Australia wear red for the National Day of Action for Child Safety.

The Daniel Morcombe Foundation has become one of the most well-known not-for-profit organisations in Australia.

The story of a young boy has transformed awareness of child safety through the unwavering dedication of his parents.

Daniel Morcombe was murdered by convicted paedophile Brett Cowan. Brett Cowan, who was responsible for Daniel’s murder, was married at the time, and his wife was unaware of his prior convictions for violent crimes against children, for which he had been imprisoned.

Since 2014, the Morcombe family has advocated for the development of a public sex offender register, known as Daniel’s Law, in honour of Daniel.

The Daniel Morcombe Foundation has advocated for this register, which protects children and, importantly, deters those who have committed and been convicted of sexual offences.

This public register now provides the community with access to valuable information, helping to safeguard children from convicted sexual offenders.

The 29th of October is a day to promote awareness and educate the public about preventing sexual crimes against children. By registering your school, workplace, or community group, you will help raise advocacy on the importance of child protection and safety.

By supporting the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, you play a vital role in safeguarding the future and wellbeing of children and young people.
