AUGUST IS NATIONAL TRADIES HEALTH MONTH 2021

I

N AUGUST each year the Australian Tradies National Health Month (TNHM) takes place giving an opportunity to spread the word by proudly partnering with physiotherapists focusing on

tradie health and wellness.

We all want to come home each day safe without being injured and of sound mind. Australia Tradies make up 35 per cent of the workforce in Australia. Furthermore, over 60 per cent of serious Workcover claims are from our own nation’s trades workers.

Research has statistics screening of warming up before work is a result of the cohort of tradies experiencing high levels of serious injury claims.

The key is to spread awareness and education within our community about recognising and preventing injuries, and providing much resources to strengthen safe outcomes for our tradespeople by investing in stronger health choices.

Another option is to seek the assistance of a physiotherapist to deliver safe movement and reduce tension which in turn helps alleviate the impact on the body which is carrying the weight of our day-to-day work and pressure.

A Physiotherapist is trained in human movement and knowledge in biomechanics of the body and helps those with injuries by increasing strength and movement. The assistance of a Physiotherapist may help prevent injuries to the best the health and safety we can provide, and reduce loss of income due to injury.

The average amount of time off from work due to injury has a significant effect on income for the household and may affect the family dynamic, mental health and even life’s daily pleasures.

A tradie that continues to build the business in their field also has more risk on the injury side due to the work-related duties that require the muscle memory, knees, and the body, often joints include shoulder, knee, and spine.

The physical repair is from the body’s memory and requires mental health wellness check-ins and talking through issues and emotions with family, friends, colleagues and peers.

The message really is for the community to stand behind the grassroots Tradie with information from the Australian Physiotherapy Association with the support from their workplace and business community, unions and fellow supervisors and managers which will allow knowledge sharing in these difficult conversations with each other to help in the workplace.

Physiotherapy associations partner with the Australian Tradies Association to provide videos, health tool kits and brochures to help raise awareness on this special month.

There’s also readily available information both for tradies and the workforce to help support their health and wellbeing.

Let us join in spreading the message of better health and wellness in the workplace by sharing the resources that are available to support National Tradies Month for 2021.
