JOIN SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL MACKAY
F
The name Soroptimist comes from the Latin soror meaning sister, and optima meaning best.
The Soroptimist International (SI) Mackay members are a vibrant group of ladies that are committed to inspiring action with a sisterhood feel that is determined to help girls and women worldwide.
With over 40 years of community service in the region the SI Mackay group is dedicated to empowering all women while educating and advocating for change.
The group meets on the first Wednesday of the month at the Jubilee Community Centre or the Mackay Council chambers at 5:30pm.
The SI Mackay ladies will also be attending the Mackay Northern Beaches SHS weekly markets on a Wednesday afternoon. They have teamed up with Coles Rural View and Woolworths Rural View who are assisting with food and Health Service with collecting over $5,000 in stock at this time.
Each month at SI Mackay group of ladies have a Soroptimist Challenge and for the month of May the theme is Celebrating Women. This challenge is an excellent focus for the Mackay women’s group and provides a way to ensure that women in our region have access to health and hygiene care and a monthly donation of women’s hygiene needs are made to local health & family support services.
If you are interested in joining the women’s SI Mackay empowering group that advocates for change then the club is always looking for members who would like to be a part of the SI Mackay group.
In June the club will be hosting a dinner and guest speaker focused around elder abuse awareness as a way to raise funds and support the community.
The Soroptimist International organisation is celebrating their 100th Anniversary in 2021 and as part of the celebration the Mackay group are involved in a worldwide postal service and providing individual cards with messages to all countries that have Soroptimist International groups.
With clubs first beginning in 1921 in Oakland, California; SI has grown throughout the decades to over 121 countries and still has the same message. To support women and girls to achieve their full potential and thrive.
If you are interested in becoming a valuable member of the SI Mackay group and would like to know when the meetings are held or to attend a meeting to learn more, then they are always open to being involved in your local region and believe in a strong sense of giving back to the region and a wonderful passionate group of ladies.
